Ken Chaytor
Born on the West Coast of Canada, a former log house building instructor, traditional wood boat builder, logging bridge contractor, selective logging contractor and then by chance Ken found himself introduced into the teak trade in Northern Thailand during the late 1980's and has continued on with his interest in Burma Teak and the cultures of Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and China.
Ken lived for the better part of 10 years in Southeast Asia and was involved in teak logging, milling, teak house construction, exporting teak boat decking and finally large reclaimed teak timbers which he now custom mills on Vancouver Island, manufacturing a growing variety of teak products.
Politics and teak go hand in hand and although Ken was comfortable working with Burma's Forestry Department it was evident that their environmental policies were not improving so he chose to work with several ethnic
groups who are now specializing in extracting dead teak trees from their traditional lands.
Ken is occasionally available for grading inspection of teak shipments originating in Southeast Asia.
